Family Dedication at Flamingo Road Church
Family Dedication is where parents commit themselves to abide by biblical principles and to raise their children according to God's standards. Not only are you dedicating your child to God, you are dedicating yourselves, as parents, to Christ and the church. You're committing yourselves to maintaining a Christian home, where Christ is honored and the Word of God is held in reverence. A child's first impression of God comes from you, so you must strive to live Christlike lives at all times. Children sense our commitment to the Lord and are far more perceptive than we sometimes realize. For that reason, you need to be diligent in your own personal relationship with the Lord and the study of His word.
Family Dedication is not for salvation of the child but is a time for your family to publicly dedicate yourselves to raising your child to love and serve the Lord. It is also a time for your church family to commit to pray for you as you bring up your child. When a child is old enough to make their own decision, she or he may decide to accept Jesus as their Savior and be baptized. For us, it is important that becoming a Christian is a decision each person makes and is old enough to remember.
Family Dedication Guidelines
I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given to the Lord. I Samuel 1:27-28 (NIV)
God gives clear commands to parents to pass their faith onto their children. Flamingo Road Church is your faith family and we commit to walk alongside you with love, support, and prayer in this endeavor. Our mission is to partner with you and your children so that you each can reach your God-potential.
Family Dedication is available to parents who can commit themselves to raising their child to know the Lord Jesus Christ by loving, disciplining, training, and instructing in the ways of His Word and setting a positive Christ like example.
You may dedicate your child/children if you are:
• A heterosexual married couple
• A single parent raising a child/children alone
Unmarried parents: We believe that God’s Word teaches that parents who are living together should do so in a covenant marriage relationship. If this is not your situation, please set up a time to visit with one of our pastors.
